MICE Groups Build Exemplary Skills Through Creative Activities

Team-building activities usually consist of a combination of artistic abilities including skills in creativity, innovation, rhythm, communication, and interaction. Through the inclusion of innovative team activities and creative MICE activities, it is possible to effectively build strong team interactions that allow groups of any size and in any field to reveal astonishing potential and learning skills used to achieve the activity's main focus. Asia Ability Director David Fotheringham says that the definition for team activities can be quite extensive; teams could be formed of anywhere from 8 to 8,000 people, last 10 minutes to two days, and be conducted either indoors or outdoors at any desired venues. The most important thing is to offer participants an unforgettable experience. How to design a successful team activity? The answer is to go back to the original intentions and take control of five key points of focus, which are: who the participants are, the diversity of the activities, a streamlined process, total participation, safety precautions, and the element of surprise. The important thing is to complete all necessary tasks in a timely manner, or else the activity is sure to be full of error and chaos. A highly creative MICE team activity requires sufficient preparation to prevent the occurrence of errors due to forgetfulness and negligence, and the goal should be to ensure the entire process is filled with highlights and surprises that garner the continuous attention of event participants. The activity will only instill the participants with precious, indelible memories if each participant experiences joy throughout the entire process. For instance, an activity such as a simple group coloring competition, wherein posters are created by each individual group or one single gigantic poster, can produce multi-team collaboration. Participants learn how to complete their tasks by following event procedures and regulations; they may also draw from their own creativity for building a personalized themed image. All of these processes encourage communication and understanding. Flags from different countries can even be introduced into the activity as a part of the poster, thus highlighting the main focus of the activity. But in order to really involve the participants, the activity must be designed exclusively to fulfill their needs and desires. For instance, plan a group activity for team transactions in Thailand where each group represents Thai communities from different regions that possess different treasures; the members of each region must exchange their treasures with members of other regions at a specific time to complete the challenge and achieve their target, such as trading a silk scarf for spices, or using cash to buy commercial secrets, and so on. The group that ultimately ends up with products and cash of the highest value or the group that attains an established target in the shortest amount of time wins the game. Such an activity allows participants who have never met before to quickly become familiarized with each other and boosts their mathematical and negotiation skills. Brainstorming and persuasion skills are also required for a chance to successfully close a transaction beneficial to oneself and the whole team. Another group activity that requires participants to be up on their feet, move around, and encourages team interaction is the game of Puppet Master, which typically lasts 2–3 hours in duration. This game is especially suited to themed conferences, and groups of 15 or more people. Participants are divided into groups that each creates a large puppet twice the height of an average person; then the groups interact through the puppets. The emotionally charged gestures, important details of human interaction, methods of communication, and creative facial expressions, are particularly fun and interesting. During the process, each group member is responsible for moving a body part, enabling them to create a shared experience and requiring cooperation. Since each group is represented by just one puppet, the team will naturally bond so as to achieve their mutual goal of winning the competition. Participants will discover that making a large puppet walk like a real person is a difficult task, and that the process is both hilarious and lively. APRIM 2017 to be Proudly Unveiled

The International Astronomical Union (IAU) was founded in 1919. It is the most prominent scientific organization in the fields of astronomy and astrophysics, a member of the International Council of Scientific Unions, and was formed with aims to facilitate and enhance academic research and experience exchanges between astronomers. In addition to the Asia-Pacific Regional IAU Meetings (APRIM), the Union also supports two other regular regional meetings: Latin America Regional IAU Meetings and Middle East and Africa Regional IAU Meetings. These meetings increase the academic research and experience exchanges of astronomers around the world and are also where many relevant regulations and future development directives have been established. The 2017 APRIM will be held from July 3–7 at the Taipei International Conference Center. Hosting rights for this meeting were successfully obtained during APRIM 2014 in Daejeon, Korea, by Chairwoman Chu You-Hua of the Astronomical Society of the Republic of China (Taiwan) on behalf of Taiwan. It will be the first time APRIM is hosted in Taiwan, and is estimated to attract over 500 international and domestic scholars from Taiwan and over 30 nations in Asia, the Middle East, Europe, the Americas, Australia, and other regions. The 1st APRIM was convened in 1978, and has since been regularly held every three years. A total of 12 APRIMs, deemed one of the world's most important international astronomy conferences, have been held in the Asia-Pacific region. The hosting of APRIM in Taiwan brings awareness to and promotes Taiwan's development in astronomy research, and will contribute to making Taiwan a focus of the global community.
